Mocali Brunello di Montalcino Vigna delle Raunate 2006
Mocali
In the winery the Mocali blends the use of traditional, large Slavonian oak barrels and French barrique to mature the wines for 2 years. The results are rich, dark and textured Brunellos that drink particularly well in their youth and continue to age gracefully for years.
Wine Advocate
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna delle Raunate is a more delicate, floral wine than the straight Brunello. It shows lovely richness in its sweet, succulent red cherries, crushed flowers, herbs and mint. All of the elements are woven together beautifully in this engaging, totally satisfying Brunello. Fine, silky tannins caress the palate on the long, fragrant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.
Score: 93. —Antonio Galloni, May 2011.
James Suckling
Lots of dried flowers, with dark fruits on the nose. Blackberries too. Full body, with spices, berries and dark chocolate on the palate. A little raisiny at the finish. Ready in a year or two for some good drinking.
Score: 92.
Wine Enthusiast
Vigna delle Raunate opens with bold smoke and spice tones upfront that are closely followed by mature fruit and blackberry aromas. Delicate touches of vanilla and black spice create beautiful accents along the way.
Score: 92. —Monica Larner, April 01, 2011.
Wine Spectator
A touch of new oak lends spice, sweetness and polish to this silky red. Cherry and blackberry flavors also prevail, but just when you think this is on the soft side, the firm, tannic structure shows itself, with a slightly dry finish. Best from 2013 through 2022. 300 cases made.
Score: 90. —Bruce Sanderson, June 30, 2011.
